Data sources and timeliness

Where the numbers come from

All storage data comes from AGSI+, the transparency platform of Gas Infrastructure Europe in Brussels, where storage operators report their own inventories. The German Federal Network Agency and the INES association use the same source.

When data is updated

Operators report once per gas day; figures are published the following day at around 19:30 CET. The latest fully reported gas day is therefore usually one to two days old — the date is shown above.

How the rating works

The five-level scale from “Very good” to “Critical” is a reading aid provided by this site, not an official assessment. It is based solely on the percentage fill level and takes neither season nor withdrawal capacity into account.

German gas storage levels – August 2026

The current gas storage level in Germany stands at 51.95 percent in August 2026 (as of August 27, 2026). Germany's natural gas storage facilities are in the injection season: from April to October, gas is put into storage to secure the heating season. They are currently about 52 percent full. The data comes from AGSI+ (Aggregated Gas Storage Inventory), the European transparency platform operated by Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE). Compared with last year, the fill level is 17.7 percentage points below the value on the same date.

Gas storage in Europe – AGSI+ levels by country

The AGSI+ data for Europe shows the fill levels of all European gas storage facilities at a glance. Gasspeicher.app covers more than 20 countries – from Germany and Austria through the Netherlands, France and Italy to the storage sites of Eastern Europe. Storage currently stands at 65.88 % in Austria, 68.87 % in France and 82.27 % in Italy.

Austria's storage plays a role well beyond its borders as a transit country for Central Europe. French and Italian storage matters particularly for Switzerland, which has secured storage capacity there: Switzerland has no underground gas storage of its own and depends entirely on imports.

AGSI+ – the official data source

AGSI+ is the official standard for gas storage data in Europe. It is operated by Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) and collects daily reports from all European storage operators. Germany's Federal Network Agency, INES and gasspeicher.app all use the same source – on gasspeicher.app it is mobile-friendly, free and requires no registration.

Gas storage levels in the Netherlands

The Dutch gas storage level is particularly relevant for the north-west European gas market. The Netherlands' storage facilities – home to the influential TTF trading hub – move gas prices across the continent. Dutch storage facilities are currently 45.69 % full. INES (Initiative Energien Speichern) is the German association of gas and hydrogen storage operators. The INES storage map shows every underground facility in Germany.
